Citizens festival for the 60th anniversary of the Federal Republic of Germany

Media Consulta organises an event for the German government at the Brandenburg Gate

On May 23rd, Media Consulta as the events’ coordinator for the Press and Information Office of the German Federal Government, organised a large celebration in Berlin to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the German Federal Republic. All citizens were invited to join the celebrities at the Brandenburg Gate along with German celebrities such as Thomas Gottschalk, Otto, Mario Adorf, and Iris Berben.

Responsible for the concept and the logistics on the day, Media Consulta organised an exiting menu of activities for the important day, blending information on the Federal Republic with music and entertainment. Musicians and bands such as Udo Jürgens, PUR, Otto & Die Friesenjungs and The BossHoss performed for the crowd at the Brandenburg Gate throughout the day and in the afternoon, Beethoven’s “Ode to Joy“ was performed by Berlin’s State Orchestra under direction of Daniel Barenboim and sung by the choir of the Berlin State Opera.

The party was also a chance to hear from some of those who have been influential figures in Germany since 1949, and helped the Federal Republic become the success it has been. At the Academy of the Arts on Pariser Platz, Iris Radisch and Ulrich Wickert presented readings and discussions with such authors, actors and historians as Uwe Tellkamp, Julia Franck, Julia Schoch, Ingo Schulze and Uwe Timm. The agenda also included readings with Ulrich Matthes, Nina Hoss, Iris Berben and Mario Adorf.

The Federal Government itself became part of the festival, as ministries, parliament, the federal states and the Constitutional Court joined German corporations in showcasing themselves along the Straße des 17. Juni. Germany did not celebrate alone as the Republic’s European friends joining in the celebration.

Media Consulta has been responsible for event and communications for the Press and Information Office of the Federal Republic since 2007. Media Consulta will be working over the year on a number of events to celebrate the 60th Anniversary, including an open day of the Federal Government.
